Frequently Asked Questions About Private Pilot Licensing
How long will it take to get my license?
This depends on the amount of time and effort you are
willing to put in. If you are able to concentrate on learning to fly and have
the time readily available, you could be licensed in as little as a
month. What are the requirements to learning to fly?
You must be able to pass an FAA physical, an FAA written
test and flight check. You can start to learn before you are 16, but you must
be 16 years old to get a student license and 17 to obtain a private pilot
license.
How much does it cost?
Again, this depends upon your schedule and how quickly you
can learn. Most students spend approximately $5,000, which includes the
airplane rental and instructor fees. There is also a one-time FAA testing fee
included in the $5,000 estimate.
What kind of plane will I learn in?
We operate a fleet of Cessna 172s, which is one of the most
well-renowned trainers for durability and ease of flight operation.
Who are the instructors?
All of our instructors are fully licensed by the FAA and
have years of experience as pilots with major U.S. airlines. Our insurance
coverage will not allow us to use new instructors you might find at other
flight schools.
Where does the instruction take place?
For basic flight instruction and ground school we use
Homestead General Airport, which is located about 1/2 hour south of Kendall.
Because of the low traffic at Homestead General, flight instruction is more
rapid because there are no long waits for runway clearance. For radio work, we
generally use Tamiami Airport and can do some simulator training in various
convenient locations in the South Florida area.
How safe is it to fly?
Flying is very safe as long as you have proper training and
adhere to standard procedures. Most people who have problems do not follow
standard procedures and/or fly too seldom to keep their skills in top
condition.
When can I start to learn?
You can begin immediately by calling to make an appointment
for an introductory flight. Call 786-243-7640.
We also offer a full range of
glider instruction.
